Response to Governor Granholm's statement
9/9/2004

It was sad to hear governor Granholm speak against cannabis. I will send her information and try to speak with her, but her statement means little for the Ann Arbor Medical Marijuana Campaign.

Ann Arbor voters don't like it when you tell them that their vote will be ignored. In Vermont, Burlington passed medical marijuana with 83% in favor, convincing Vermont to adopt the policy statewide. Medical Marijuana is not a partisan issue. It is about giving the best possible quality of life, or any life at all, to people who are ill with cancer, AIDS, chronic pain, MS and many other medical conditions. That is why it polls so highly and will win big in Ann Arbor.

This medical marijuana vote in Ann Arbor is about sending a message, and the message in favor of medical marijuana is still going to get through loud and clear. We need an 80% approval vote to win a clear moral victory here in Ann Arbor, but sick people will be happy with 51%. There are few Ann Arbor voters who will refuse to grant some innocent medical patients a path away from pain and death. "There but for the grace of god" go you and I.
